Principal's welcome
Dear Parents and Carers
It has been quite an eventful past week, preparing for the possibility of a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone impact in our area! I am very pleased that the safety of staff and students was absolutely prioritised by the Queensland Government in their choice to close many schools for two days. While this may also be somewhat disruptive, the safety of humans always needs to come first. Thank you for your support of the school in this time. I look forward to seeing our staff and students return tomorrow to get back into what will be a busy week with the commencement of NAPLAN for Year 3 and Year 5 (more information below).
We are excited to participate in the 2025 School Review of Kilcoy State School early next term!
Commencing in early May next term, Kilcoy State School will engage in a School Review with a small team of external reviewers. Historically this has been a very thoughtful process allowing us to celebrate our progress as a school and provide important evidence to help us make informed decisions when planning for the next four-year period.
How you can help! Feedback from parents and the community is an important part of school reviews, with everyone encouraged to have their say. Conversations with a review team member can be in person
or over the phone. All feedback remains confidential. Reviewers endeavour to connect with parents and carers
before or after school around school grounds and car parks. To register your interest in participating in a review please contact our school office. Alternatively, you can register your interest via emailreviews@qed.qld.gov.au.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
In 2025, our NAPLAN testing will occur between the 12th of March to the 24th of March.
It is a nationwide measure through which parents/carers, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community. NAPLAN results allow parents/carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards.
If you have any questions, please contact the office on 5422 3333.
Kind regards, Mrs Belinda Nash.

P-2 Classroom Highlights - This week highlights The Arts
Each week students at Kilcoy State School have a lesson with the Arts teacher, Mrs Keast. This week, year 1 students were learning about their emotions and making faces of emotions using a paper plate and play dough.

3-6 Classroom Highlights - This week highlights 4A
In 4A, to consolidate our learning about statistics we sat outside and collected data by looking at the vehicles that passed the school in 30mins. Students were surprised at how many vehicles went past and how difficult it was to watch and record accurately. Previously we had discussed jobs that use data collection including traffic counters. The students all agreed it would be a difficult job especially in the middle of big cities. 4A will now use this data to create graphs and to communicate their findings in a future newsletter.

P&C News
Hello Families,
Thank you for your understanding and support when we needed to cancel the last P&C Meeting due to the predicted effects of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Thankfully it was less of an impact for those in the areas surrounding the school. Our thoughts go out to others who have been less lucky and wish them well in the following days.
This means that the next General Meeting will be held on Monday 24/3, just before the Annual General Meeting following it. That meeting is your final opportunity to sign up as a member before the AGM. Only members are allowed to vote in the AGM on 24/3/25 where we will elect a new P&C president and executive team for 2025.

Sports News
It was disappointing to need to postpone the recent Valley Champs Swimming competition due to the cyclone predictions however we support any measures that help keep our students safe. Our Sports Staff are busily coordinating a new date which will be confirmed soon.
