News from Mrs Nash - Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to our Term 3, Week 7 newsletter. This week, we commence our formal strategic planning for the 2026 school year! While that may sound a bit early to some, a lot of thought needs to go into the important decisions that will lead our school progress throughout the following year, and this takes time. Each year, we take staff with us to the regional strategic planning days to ensure that their voices are prominent in our plans. We will also involve our P&C Association and student leaders in the process, when we return to school. If you are interested providing feedback on the direction of our school, I encourage you to attend a P&C Meeting to contribute.
This week, we will also commence the Student Leadership process for all current Year 5 students hoping to achieve a student leadership position for 2026. Spanning the next 12 weeks or so, students will be provided with support to apply and progress. An information letter will be provided to all Year 5 students this coming week, and we encourage you to speak to your child about exploring this pathway.
It's a Parade Week! Please join us on Thursday afternoon at 2.20pm in the hall. All parents, carers and community are welcome.
This Friday 5/9/25 is a Student Free Day. Thank you for keeping your child home. While no students are at school, all staff will be participating in professional learning. We will be working with staff from Mt Kilcoy State School in a cluster meeting, moderating at our English Units and sharing how our learning environments contribute to student progress. We will also delve into learning more about teaching interoception - a valuable life skill which supports self-regulation.
OSHC - Our Outside of Hours Care provider will be visiting the school on Thursday 4/9 from 8-10am to meet with parents who wish to find out more face-to-face.

Book Week Parade

Yr3/4 Excursion to Wildlife Zoo HQ: After a false start due to poor weather conditions pushing the excursion back by a week, the Year 3/4 students visited the Zoo, enjoying their day thoroughly. Their excellent behaviour was on display at all times and judging by the amount of kids asleep on the bus on the way home, a very busy day was enjoyed by all. Thank you to our 3/4 teachers for organising an exciting learning day for our students.

PBL - Positive Behaviour for learning
Our focus for Term 3 is on our third STAR value - ACTIVE LEARNING. Throughout the term, our students will build their ability to:
- choose to develop a growth mindset.
- have a go at all activities.
- show courage and resilience in their learning.
- use their own brain power and think before asking.
- use the feedback that is given to them.
- use the learning wall to help themselves.
- make sure they are present, centred, and ready to learn.
Attendance Check: Our current whole school attendance rate is 89.7%. Our goal is 95%. If your child is reluctant to attend or you would like assistance in this area, please make contact with the office on 5422 3333 to make an appointment.
Kind regards, Mrs Belinda Nash.

Local Sporting news

Recently, the Kilcoy Tennis Club hosted its junior tennis competition. After an exciting draw between two players the match came down to a three-game playoff. Congratulations to Darlow in Year 5 who played brilliantly and came away as the winner!
Congratulations to Quinton, Levi and Stevie for their Regional Sports performance! Well done to Stevie who now also holds the new 1500m school record.

“From Ocean Adventures to Up: A Magical Book Week”
What an exciting week we’ve had celebrating Book Week 2025! This year’s theme, Book an Adventure, came to life all around our school.
One of the highlights was our Book Walk, featuring ‘Mr Luke’s Ocean Adventure’ by Luke Springer and Chris Kennant. A book walk is like a story treasure hunt, with pages from the book placed around the school grounds. As students strolled from one stop to the next, they read each page, solved questions, and uncovered the adventure step by step.
Morning Messages also had a surprise visitor – none other than Carl Fredricksen, the loveable but grumpy adventurer from the film Up! Brought to life by our talented teacher aide, Justine Steell, Carl reminded everyone to dress up for the Book Week Parade and encouraged students to visit the Book Fair to discover new books of their own.
Year 2 A Stepped into Character!
Year 2 A seized the opportunity to link Book Week with their English Speaking Unit. While dressed in their colourful book character costumes, the students stepped into role and practised using voices, gestures, and presentation skills in character. They shared opinions with expression, aiming to convince their audience about the very best place to enjoy Fruit Break.
Below are photographs of:
- 2A students in costume, along with snapshots of them in action as they practised their speaking skills in character.
- Carl Fredricksen, a.k.a. our very own Justine Steell.

It was a week bursting with colour, creativity, and adventure – proving once again that books can take us anywhere!

1A Science Unit: Push & Pull
The gallery below shows you our 1A students with one of the toys they made for their Science unit. Students had to design a toy that will move with a push or a pull. They described how to make a change to the toy and how it would affect the toy’s movement. Students enjoyed using their toy vehicles to have races, challenging each other with how far they would travel. They have made several toys and games this term, learning to present recounts of the procedures needed to create each item.

P&C News
Fundraising for our school is in full swing, with over six thousand dollars raised so far which is great. It will be a considerable amount of money even after the costs are taken for the actual fun run event. Prep A are in the lead with 3/4A and 2B hot on their heels. It's going to be an amazing Fun Run day! We have until Week 10 to raise money. :)
You can see the update from Thursday 28/8/25 below and while this is wonderful - we still have a way to go until we get to slime a staff member! You can still sign up at www.funrun.com.au. Check this video out to learn more: https://youtu.be/TWZtODiL7R0
Our next P&C Meeting will be held on Thursday 4th September at 3.30pm in the Resource Centre. Please come along and contribute to our school. All community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Caring for our local wildlife
It was great to see our Year 1/2 students looking out for a lost owl at school this week! We're pretty sure it was a Tawny Frogmouth owl. Much care was taken to rope the area off and signs were made to keep people away and reduce its stress. When nightfall came, our nocturnal friend flew off to find food and hopefully a more suitable home.
