News from Mrs Nash - Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Term 4, our last quarter of the school year. As usual, our terms are jam-packed with exciting offerings for our students and staff have been busy building engaging units of learning for each area of the curriculum. There are several sporting opportunities this term from an NRL Gala Day to swimming lessons and two days of Swimming Carnivals. We will continue our transition to high school process in conjunction with Kilcoy State High School and look forward to thanking all out Volunteers at a morning tea on 12/11/25. During Week 4 (27/10 to 31/10) we will celebrate the amazing staff at Kilcoy State School who work tirelessly each day to provide our students with the best education and schooling environment possible. I hope that you will join me in these celebrations for all of our staff.
Swimming Lessons will commence in Week 3 (every day) for P-2 students. Year 3-6 students will participate in Week 5, every day. More information will be sent home this week. In line with the department’s K–12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework, Queensland state schools are required to provide a water safety and swimming education program in Prep to Year 6. As recommended, we implement the program as part of our delivery of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education.
PREP 2026! Do you have a child born between July 1st 2020, and June 30th 2021? If so, your child is eligible to enrol now to attend Prep in 2026! Book in at the office as soon as possible to assist the school to get to know your child and help with classroom allocation. Please also pass this information on to other people you know who may have school aged children.
On Friday this week, Year 2 students head off to the Sunshine Coast to the Ginger Factory, to explore the ginger industry from start to finish as well as experiencing the busy world of bees! The students will also explore thirteen different cultural and geographical zones of the world and take a step back in time, hopping on board one of Queensland’s original cane trains to enjoy a leisurely ride through the rainforest and Ginger Factory site, while learning about the history of Yandina and the local ginger industry. We can't wait for the photos!

Our amazing Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) have planned an exciting event for our kids in Week 5 - a themed Disco featuring DJ Candy! More details will be provided soon, but you'd better put a date claimer in your diary for Thursday 6th November.
Important Blue Card requirement update:
Volunteer parent exemption
From 20 September 2025, parents volunteering for an activity their child participates in generally will not need a blue card.
This exemption will be standardised across all child-related employment activities. It allows parents to continue to participate in activities with their children.
The exemption will not apply to parents volunteering for activities not involving their own child; overnight excursions or camps; if their volunteering includes close personal contact with another child; or if the parent is a restricted person.
If you are a parent and have been relying on the volunteer parent exemption for any activities not covered by the new exemption rules, you must obtain a blue card that is linked to your organisation by 20 September 2025. If you do not, you cannot continue in regulated activities.
Learn more about the volunteer parent exemption.
Parent volunteers
Under the parent volunteer exemption, you do not need a blue card to volunteer for activities your own child is participating in, unless:
- the activity is an overnight camp or excursion
- the service or activity includes close personal contact with a child, such bathing, toileting or dressing.
- You will need a blue card to volunteer for activities your child isn’t directly participating in.
This exemption does not apply to a restricted person.
For the exemption, a parent of a child is defined as:
- the biological mother or father
- someone exercising parental responsibility
- someone who is regarded as the parent of the child under Aboriginal tradition
- someone who is regarded as the parent of the child under Torres Strait Island custom.
Other relatives (such as grandparents and uncle and aunts) are not considered parents and are not afforded the volunteer parent exemption [so will need a blue card to volunteer].

OSHC - Our new Outside of Hours Care provider 'Helping Hands' commences their service at our school this week, providing before and after school care, and holiday care, to enrolled students from Kilcoy State School. Details on enrolling your child into Outside School Hours Care are below. Over the holidays, the Helping Hands crew have been busy bringing all their equipment in, having their service formally approved by the education department and they are now ready to go!
Enrolment and Booking
Helping Hands offer an easy and uncomplicated FREE enrolment system using their online platform at How to Enrol | Helping Hands Network or by calling their Customer Service team on 1300 612 462.
Helping Hands is guided by the governments National Quality Framework and set Education and Care National Law Act and Regulations applicable for each state, so there is necessary documentation they require from each family. All enrolments must be completed prior to attendance with all required documentation that are required by National Law.
These are:
- IMMUNISATION HISTORY Each service has a legal requirement to have a record of each child’s immunisation history so families can be contacted if any illnesses are circulating the community and prevent exposure to a child who may not be immunised
- MEDICATION AUTHORISATION FORM Any medication that needs to be administered requires a Medical Authorisation Form to be signed by the family. The medication then needs to be provided to the service with the child’s name clearly displayed in its original packaging.
- MEDICAL MANAGEMENT PLANS All medical conditions require a Medical Management Plan to be prepared by the child’s doctor. Allergy or anaphylaxis requirements must be on an ASICA Action Plan displayed in colour with a picture of the child and signed by the doctor. Any other medical conditions such as asthma or epilepsy also require a Medical Management Plan along with any medication required to properly manage the child’s medical condition, such as an inhaler, auto-injector (epipen) or antihistamines. Families are responsible for updating any Medical Management Plans on an annual basis and providing these to the service. If these are not provided, this may prevent the child from attending
PBL - Positive Behaviour for learning
Our focus for Term 4 is on our final STAR value - RESPECT. Throughout the term, our students will build their ability to:
- successfully return to learning after the school holidays.
- follow the school’s Code of Conduct.
- use good manners and speak politely to everyone.
- respect the privacy of others.
wear their school uniform with pride.
- show respect for the right of other students to learn.
- listen and think about other people’s ideas and opinions, as well as their own.
- act in a respectful and self-controlled way.
- don’t disturb learning of others if they need to move about the classroom.
- be a team-player and show good sportsmanship.
- not disrupt games.
be fair and let everyone have a turn.
Attendance Check: Our current whole school attendance rate is 89.6%. Our goal is 95%. If your child is reluctant to attend or you would like assistance in this area, please make contact with the office on 5422 3333 to make an appointment.
Kind regards, Mrs Belinda Nash.

E-Scooter safety laws.
E-scooter and E-bike rules
Did you know that E-scooters, e-skateboards, and solo wheels have a separate set of rules to e-bikes? Here in Queensland, riders of legal e-bikes must follow the same rules as standard bicycles.
E-scooters rules
To ensure you and your child know the rules to stay as safe as possible when using e-scooters or e-skateboards, visit StreetSmarts Qld for a quick and easy to understand listing of the rules and fines. Most importantly, remember:
- Only those aged 16+ can ride e-scooters and e-skateboards unsupervised.
- Helmets must be worn with the straps properly fastened (bicycle or motorcycle helmets) and bells fitted for devices with handlebars.
- No passengers/doubling – only one person riding an e-scooter.
- Speed limit of 12km/h on footpaths and shared paths.
- Serious fines may apply to riders, and parents, if caught breaking the rules.
StreetSmartsQld also features educational videos and other helpful safety tips for riding e-scooters and e-skateboards.
