Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to our new families joining our Kilcoy State School community this term! We look forward to getting to know you. We have had quite a few new families enrol recently and we encourage you to join our P&C or come to parade (even weeks on Thursday at 2.20pm).
This coming week, staff, Year 5 and Year 6 students and parents will be emailed the annual School Opinion Survey. This survey helps provide information to the school on what the school is doing well, and what the school can improve on. As lifelong learners, we appreciate the time you put into your answers and look forward to using this data to inform our planning.
REPORT CARDS - achievement AND effort.
During Week 3 this term, report cards for EAL/D Students who are new arrivals to Australia will be issued. If you require assistance to understand these reports, please contact the school office on 5422 3333.
REPORT CARDS - tagumpay & pagsisikap.
Attendance: Our current attendance rate is 89.4% however our goal is 95%.
Students with less than 80% attendance are of particular concern for us, having already missed 1/5 of their learning this year. Letters to parents of children in this situation will be sent home shortly. We hope to make contact with parents to offer support to increase their child's attendance routines.
If your child will be absent, please make sure you call the absence line on (07) 5422 3366 to let us know why they are away so that it can be recorded accurately.
Community engagement & collaboration: Thank you to our wonderful P&C for thinking out of the box about how they can fundraise, and also provide a benefit to the wider community. We are happy to have a forward thinking group of parents working so hard for the benefit of all children at out school. Thank you also to the contributing local businesses and members below for their support. What a wonderful community we live in!
Elders Property Management, Kel Stanton's Mobile Diesel Services, Woodfit, Kilcoy Global Foods, Ledgers Country Butchery, Kilcoy Barbers Shop, Alands Fruit & Veg, Pizza 82, State Member for Nanango: Deb Frecklington and the Stanley Hotel for hosting.
Kind regards, Mrs Nash.

Curriculum
Parents and carers will have received their curriculum newsletter from classroom teachers last week. Please make sure you read these letters and become familiar with what your child is learning at school. Teachers are busy planning and preparing lessons for your children to ensure that learning at Kilcoy State School is fun.
This week, all teachers of English, will participate in CASW (Collaborative Assessment of Student Work) sessions. This is an opportunity for teachers to ensure all students are on track and to work together with colleagues to share pedagogical practices. Do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about your their learning.
Japanese Healing Garden
On Friday, the year 3 and 4 students participated in a Somerset Regional Council Healing Garden workshop. Healing Garden is a new collaborative art work, that will be exhibited at The Condensery in Toogoolawah from 9 December 2023. The workshop was delivered by local artist Makiko Ramsey. The focus is on native plant species of the Somerset Region. The students created flowers using sponge, material and string to contribute to the broader project, which will form a beautiful garden installation in the gallery. The lead artist, Hiromi Tango, creates immersive, sculptural installation that invite audience interaction, often with a performative aspect. Jason Murphy, local Jinibara custodian, selected the plant species for the project and all species have healing or medicinal properties. Enjoy the photos of 4A's workshop below.
NRL Development Day
In the first week of Term 3, all students participated in NRL development workshops and then students from years 3 - 6 participated in League tag competitions organised by NRL development officers. For some students, this was the first time they learned NRL skills and they were thrilled to be able to participate. Tweed Seagulls RLFC had a captains run Friday afternoon at the Yowies footy fields and arrived early to meet students from Kilcoy State School. Students were able to get posters signed and meet and greet the players.
Not only was this an exciting day for the students, but there were many positive comments received about the excellent behaviour of the students at Kilcoy State School. Staff were very proud of the way Kilcoy State School students interacted with each other and encouraged each other during a friendly day of competition.
Mrs Webster - Deputy Principal.

Glasses
Can you see the photo below? We are worried that many students won't be able to see the photo because they have lost their glasses. If you recognise a pair of these glasses, please pop into the Administration building to collect them.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
The PBL Team are excited to share the Kilcoy State School School-wide Positive Behaviour matrix with you (below). These are the expectations for all students at Kilcoy State School and guide the explicit teaching content for students each week.
This term, our overall focus is on Active Learning and while we will cover content from all domains, the Active Learning column will be deeply unpacked. In order to recognise this focus, we are having a YELLOW day, on Wednesday 26th July for all staff and students. We are asking that students and staff come to school wearing something yellow. It doesn't have to be full yellow like Jussy the Clown below- a splash of yellow is perfectly fine.

Free Kindy from 2024!
Free kindy from 2024
Did you know that Kindy will be free for eligible-aged children, who attend a government approved program offering free kindy, from 1 January 2024? Your child can attend a sessional kindergarten or kindergarten in long day care. A kindy program of 15 hours a week or 600 hours a year, will be free. This is really great news for all families. Kindy is a wonderful way to provide social learning opportunities and get them ready to go to 'big school'!
