Go Green for Safety!
On Wednesday 21-2-24, Kilcoy State School will 'Go Green for Safety', as part of our recognition of the importance of safety in schools. Safety is one of our core values at Kilcoy State School, and is the Term 1 Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus for our school. We would love it if you sent your children to school wearing green on Wednesday!

Spotlight on Attendance
Our current Attendance rate is 92.4%.
If your child will be absent, please make sure you call the absence line on (07) 5422 3366 to let us know why they are away so that it can be recorded accurately.
Our goal is for every child to be in attendance, every day.
Important health information: Growing cases of pertussis (‘whooping cough’).
Please read the attachments below with important information from Sunshine Coast Public Health Unit and North Coast Region, to raise awareness for parents and carers of the growing cases of pertussis (‘whooping cough’) across the region.
Our Annual Prep Vision Screening day will occur on Thursday 22-2-24 at school. Any Prep parents who haven't returned their forms yet are urged to do so as soon as possible. We don't want any of our Preppies to miss out on this valuable free health check.
Kind regards, Belinda Nash.
Deputy Principal: Mrs Webster
Realising the potential for every student - The first two weeks of term is busy - everyone is settling and there is lots of 'new' - new classes, new routines, new faces. For our prep students, everything is new. I have noticed in the last two weeks the Prep students are particularly settled. The change from the beginning of the year is significant.
There is still the occasional tear and behaviour indicating that some students will take a little longer to settle into Prep than other students. It prompts me to ask the question, 'When did your child learn to walk?' Some children are walking by 6 months of age and others take their first steps at 14 months. This varies from child to child and we all accept that children learn to walk at different ages. By the time they are at school, it is irrelevant exactly what age they took their first steps.
Apply the same logic to education. Some students will learn 'expected classroom behaviours' early and adapt quickly, while other students will need more reminders, explicit instruction and time to master the same. Some students learn to read quickly, while others require more explicit instruction and time. The part we play as a community to support all students to grow and learn at their own pace is very important. Being understanding and patient with your child as they learn to grow and master skills is key.
Our School Supervisor, Martin Leach, visited Kilcoy State School during the last week. It is always a highlight for me as he wants to see what is happening in classrooms and talk to students and teachers about what they are learning. Please see the photo below of Mr Leach's visit to our year 3/4A classroom.
Effective planning, reviewing, monitoring and reporting helps ensure that every student realises their potential.
Warm regards, Lisa Webster.
Why are we committed to using a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework?
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is an evidence based multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework.
PBL organises practices that support all our students, systems that support our staff, and data that supports our decision making to achieve valued and equitable outcomes.
By implementing the evidence-based practices within our Kilcoy State School PBL framework, we are supporting our students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioural success. We value and promote the opportunity to partner with families to make education culturally responsive, and create an environment where every student can feel valued, connected to our school community, and supported by caring adults.

3/4B Class progress report on our new Senior Amenities block
New Toilet Block
Outside our classroom something exciting is happening. We can see the builders building the new toilet block.
As you can see in these photos lots of things are happening. Cement is being poured in for more footpaths and for the toilets to sit on. This is so we can follow the footpath to find the new toilets. The builders have a large pile of cinder blocks that will be used to build the toilets. There is a pile of dirt because the workers are working on digging out for the pipes. The workers built lots of trenches and have filled them with wire and plastic.
Stay tuned for more updates on the building, with 3/4B. We have the best view of what is going on down there.
