Dear Parents and Carers
Congartulations to the students who represented our school at the recent District swimming event! Our Sports Captains delivered the following report on Parade in Week 6.
There have been many district sporting trials already this year. Well done to all the students who have participated. We will be acknowledging all of these students in the final parade of the term.
District Swimming was a huge success with Kilcoy State School performing extremely well. Special mention to Sam who was age champion, Sonny who was runner up age champion and James who has qualified for regionals. Can all students who swam at districts swimming come forward and receive a certificate.
On Thursday the 8th, students will compete at Valley Champs Swimming Carnival against Mt Kilcoy and Woodford. Can all students competing please stand up we wish you the best of luck.
In preparation for cross country, we will soon be starting our lap challenge. This year, Somerset and Mackenzie will be versing each other to run the most laps and be named the Lap Challenge Champion House.
All students please remember: bring your hats every day and have them with you at PE.
From Wednesday 13/3/24, our Year 3 and Year 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN testing.
As you may already be aware, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests comprise of four tests, assessing the literacy and numeracy skills of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.
Our Year 3 and Year 5 classroom teachers will support their students have a successful NAPLAN testing experience. If you have any questions, or concerns about your child participating in NAPLAN this year, please contact the office on 5422 3333 to make an appointment to speak to Mrs Webster (Deputy Principal) or myself (Principal). As per the NAPLAN guidelines, we provide appropriate adjustments to support students to access the tests. This will be aligned with the supports they are already receiving in class to access their class based assessment.
I have attached information (a simple version and one with more detail) to help you understand more about this national testing protocol.
Spotlight on Attendance
Current Attendance rate: 92.2%
If your child will be absent, please make sure you call the absence line on (07) 5422 3366 to let us know why they are away so that it can be recorded accurately.
Our goal is for every child to be in attendance, every day.
The 2024 P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 6/3/24 (next week). Historically, only a small group of parents have contributed their time and effort by joining the P&C. They meet just once a month on average and are responsible for bringing all those great fundraisers to our school. We would like to invite you to join the P&C, considering how you might be able to help contribute to our school. Sometimes all that's involved is giving your opinion on the school's plans for the year! Having that input from parents and community is vital to ensure that we all have a say in how this wonderful goverment school runs to meet the needs of OUR community.
We can never be exactly sure how many people read this newsletter, so look out for your personal invitation or phone call soon, inviting you to join. I'd hate for our current P&C Team to burn out by trying to support the entire school when it works best if we all pitch in. Please consider joining, we'd love to get to know you and hear your thoughts on how our school can develop in supporting our students.

Quick question: Ever noticed how the way we say something can totally change its meaning? That's the magic of tone! Imagine reading a sentence written in all caps - it feels like shouting, doesn't it? Conversely, a sentence with gentle, reassuring words feels like a warm embrace.
When a child comes to you after they have made a mistake. How do you respond? Do you shout and reprimand them? Or do you quitely and firmly guide them to ensuring they make the right decisions next time explaining all the time the reasons why you may or may not have to instill a consequence.
Tone isn't just about being nice or polite. It's about creating connections and understanding. It's about making sure everyone feels heard and respected. It can inspire, uplift, or deflate and alienate. It's the difference between "You have to do this" and "Could you please do this?"
Friday was 'World Compliment Day'. I challenge you to take time out this week to compliment someone and let them know how you value their character (not their looks or the new dress/shirt).
Let's sprinkle some kindness and empathy into our words. That way, we can build a community where everyone feels valued and understood.
Remember, the way we say things leaves a lasting impression. Let's make sure it's a good one!
Warm regards, Lisa Webster.

New Amenities Block update from students in 3/4A
It’s beginning to look a lot like a toilet block…
The builders were putting the dirt in the structure they built last week.
They were cleaning up the place (it looks more organised).
The builders have made a lot of progress since the first day (their boss visited them).
They have been putting lots of pipes in for the water to run through the systems.
This week we have seen a cement pipe on a crane and an excavator.
We think they are close to finishing the job.
